Echo Chamber supports artistic and academic scholarship in comics. In collaboration with Routledge, the first volume Ilan Manouach in Review: Critical Approaches to his Conceptual Comics (ed. Pedro Moura) collects individual essays dedicated to the description, study and critical takes, using a variety of interdisciplinary perspectives and analytical approaches, on the ongoing oeuvre of the Brussels/Athens-based artist Ilan Manouach. With this publication, Echo Chamber is positioned as an important springboard to yet more crucial developments for the theoretical and textual maturity of comics research. Its critical catalogue attempts to advance a better understanding for artists working in the margins of more established commercial circuits, of more commonly accepted discursive forms and styles of comics-making, even of legality, but which nevertheless provide a more conceptually challenging field within the art of comics is a most welcome, if not necessary, act.
