Synthetic Comics

The digital transformation of the comics infrastructure has had a profound impact on the ways in which information is aggregated, stored and retrieved in the comics industry, gradually making possible the introduction of generative algorithms towards the production of synthetic media content. Online comics, by their sheer volume, their variety in type and quality, the velocity at which they are encoded, the veracity and precision of the entries and the value resulting from the correlation with parallel data flows and metrics, are currently reaching a tipping point that can only be described in terms of Big Data. Comics have the potential to play out multiple infrastructural interests at the crossroads of institutional, educational and commercial establishments. Every fall and spring, Echo Chamber is excited to bring on new talent through its internship program, occasionally offering specified positions based on candidates’ unique backgrounds and experiences in the areas of data sciences, digital humanities and computational analyses.
